Saturday afternoon blogging

I wish I had found this Meme the other day when I wrote my first Synopsis the other day.  I didn't think it would be so hard.  Who Knew? I am proud of myself that I finally wrote one.  It needs work, I think last lines are bit cheesy but its all I could think of. I *squeed* a little when I found this.  The best part of writing a blog is finding all sorts of cool and fun images to post.

This one is so very true.  Though I still managed in 1/2 hour word sprint to have a facebook conversation and write 200 words.  (In my defense we were talking about Supernatural.)

Why post a picture of Mark Sheppard. Other then the fact this is my favorite picture of him and I'm a huge Mark Sheppard fan girl. (What can I say the man is been almost every show I have ever loved.)  The story just structure in my head long before it hit paper.  I cast Mark as David Matthew Howard in the movie in my head.  He is married to the main character Suri-Rana-Tu.

My main couple is in their mid to late 40's which is different from many romance novels.  I got tired of all Romance/erotica being centered around late teen/early years young women who are just begining to discover their  sexuality/power etc. because of the mysterious man that comes into their life.  I wanted to write about a woman who was confident, smart, strong and comfortable about her sexuality.  Suri-Rana-Tu is an alien, so she does not look like your traditional romance novel heroine either. This is her story.

  Why Aliens?
This story is based on a dream I had over 15 years ago.  The basis of the dream was that I was alien from a planet that had two difference breed of aliens. I had disguised myself as the breed of alien that was more socially acceptable.  I met a man who was the same type of alien I was but not in disguise.  (it was a dream, so somethings don't make much sense.) He figured out who I was.  Then I just remember spending the rest of dream being chased. The other thing I remember about the dream the aliens ate freeze dried lizards.  I'm not sure why that stuck with me.
I started to developed this story years ago. That's when I got idea she was professor at a college and that had married a human who was also a professor. I never did anything with it.

A year and half ago I started writing again. I had discovered Supernatural and started to write fan fiction.  I found that writing fan fiction made me want to write original stuff again. This idea was still laying about in head and decided it needed to written.  This also was around the same time I found out my mother had cancer.  Developing this story help me deal with my mothers illness by giving me something else to focus on.
The past year and half I have been working on this story.  I envy those who can write a novel in month.  I started to get in the habit of writing then stopped for a 6-8 months.  Then I decided to start over. I scrapped the first draft. ( it was only 15 pages long so not a big deal.) In March I began in earnest writing again.  I did Camp Nanowrimo in April.  I didn't even come close to the goal of 1000 words a day.  Even though I didn't "win" it was worth doing.  I got a lot of encouragement and learned the joys of word sprints which I still suck at. Who knew Twitter had such a thriving writing community.  Well there is a lot on twitter I'm not familiar with but thats besides the point.
I am glad I started writing again.  I hesitated to call myself a writer just yet.  I don't have a finished body of work so I feel like a fraud calling myself a writer.  I write. I am writing a sci-fi romance/erotica novel. Apparently I can't write smut unless I have character development and a plot.  I want to know why those people are fucking and want in it the context of developed story. I'm weird that way.
       Now, back to writing...
After I check Facebook.

Then it occured to me people might have no idea what I'm writing

Yes, I am a slow distracted writer.  I envy those how can sit and write 1000 words a day.  I have yet to do so. I am getting back in the habit of writing and that is good thing. I'm determined to finish this novel. No one but maybe a few friends may ever read but at least I can say I wrote a book. I would love it to be published but first a girl has got to finish it.
The big question what the hell am I writing about?
Its a Science fiction, Romance/erotica novel.  Thus the title of my blog; Love, Sex and Aliens. My main character is a poly-amorous, pan-sexual alien.  You have no idea how much I love that sentence.  There is something joyous about that description. My book takes place about 100 years in the future and Earth has made contact with a planet by the name Of Meit-Zua.  Book takes place about 70 years after the integration of the two planets.
Suri-Rana-Tu Resa is Meit-Zuan who is full breed Sandlander who survive the war that ravaged her homeland.  She was just a student at the human style university in the bubble city of Allis-say when the war began.  She survived the war with a pair of human exchange students.  She started a new life with the human couple that she survived with to create a new blended family on Earth. Matthew and Susan aleady had one child on earth.  Susan was pregnant when she arrived back home.  Suri-Rana-Tu had her sister's  toddler in tow when she arrived to her new home. In order to leave the planet she had to take the identity of her sister who had died in the war.
The story takes place twenty years after Suri-Rana-Tu arrives on Earth.  Rana and Matthew were left to raise  the children after they were widowed four years after starting their new lives.  Rana had made quite a comfortable life for herself and her family.  Rana and Matthew were professors at Asimov University in upstate New York, about two hours from the City.
They were embarking on celebrating a decade of being married when a stranger from her home world comes into their life threatening the tranquility of the life they had built.
    ************************************************
Wow, I think I finally figured out how to write a synopsis. I think the last line of is a bit cheesy but its the only thing I could think of.  I would love to hear some feedback.

A small victory!!!

Today I did almost 400 words at a sitting I could of gone longer but it was time to leave the cafe. Its been difficult for me to do more the 200 words at a time. It is little bit like cheating since is one of the scenes I keeping from when I decided to start over.  So more like rewriting but still, there a changes to be made and there is always this fear that I'll re-read it and think it crap.
In honor to today's little streak I post this.
why?
 A. I am a Mark Sheppard fan girl so this is a treat for me,
                   B. My main male character is inspired by him.

If you know me then this should be no surprise to you.

I get by with some help from my friends

Progress is coming along.  I really need to work on my daily word counts.  Its really good to know I have friends who believe in me. I have awesome friends.  Last night I heard from a friend I hadn't spoken to in a long time.  I started to tell a bit about my story. We started to talk about the impact of discovering alien race would have on religion both on the alien world and on earth.  It was a great discussion.  Think of the new religions that would be created from he discovery. I'm trying not to be lazy writer with out crowding to much into the story.  This story is not going to focus so much on technology as much as relationships and some societal issues, but in a sexy and interest way.  It is smut after all.  I find I can't write sex without character development and plot.  Today's word count ends at 6148.

Yes I should be writing, and techically I am...

Okay here it Friday night and I finally have time to write more on my novel.  Instead I'm on the blog.  I guess this is still writing, just not what I should be writing.  Getting the story out from my head to the page has been difficult.  The vomit draft is hard basically cause I edit too much as I go.  My word sprint totals are awful.  I'm so afraid of it being bad I have trouble getting it out on the page.  So time to get my butt back into writing. I have an hour and a half here at Starbucks and I'm going to try to take advantage of it.  Next blog post will be word count update.

Friday Night Writes

So one of things I liked about Camp nanowrimo is word sprints.  I had no idea there were all over the internet.  I now follow @writeclub which hosts Friday night writes.  so my starting word count 5009.  After first word sprint 131 words not great but hopefully the next one will be better. I did one more sprint but made the mistake of checking Facebook and making a comment on a political meme which completely threw me off my writing mood.  So now the word count is at 5267. Now its Sunday. Because of free comic book day and taking my roommate the War Bunny to the hospital I didn't get to write, now I'm sitting at a coffee shop writing on my blog instead of the novel.   So now back to writing.  Talk to you folks later.

Welcome to my writing blog

Now that Camp Nanowrimo is over I need to find a way to keep my self motivated.  I didn't even come close to "winning" but thats not why I did it.  It helped me get back to writing on regular basis.  So I created this blog to keep my self inspired and keep track of word counts. Feel free to join me in my little writing adventure.
